Adding Glitter To An Image


This tutorial was written by me and any resemblance to other tutorials is purely coincidental. PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE this tutorial from Ladyhawwk Designs.

This tutorial will teach you how to add "Glitter" to parts of, or a whole image.

You will need PSP any version Animation Shop Supplies which you can get HERE
No plug-ins are required for this Tutorial



1. Unzip the supplies from your folder.

2. Open up your PSP AND Animation Shop

3. Minimize your PSP. Let's start in Animation Shop

4. Go to "File", "Open" Go to where you have unzipped your "blue12glittertut" and open in your Animation Shop

5. You should see three frames. Click on the first frame and "edit", then "copy"

6. Minimize your animation shop and maximize your PSP

7. Right Click anywhere on the grey space and "Paste as new image"

8. Minimize your PSP and maximize your Animation Shop

9. Click on the second frame and "edit", then "copy"

10. Minimize your animation shop and maximize your PSP

11. Right Click anywhere on the grey space and "Paste as new image"

12. Minimize your PSP and maximize your Animation Shop

13. Click on the third frame and "edit", then "copy"

14. Minimize your animation shop and maximize your PSP

15. Right Click anywhere on the grey space and "Paste as new image" You should now have those three frames as separate images in your PSP. See print screen below.

16. Go to "File", "Open" Go to where you have unzipped your "GlitterTutback" and open in your PSP You should now have something that looks like this

17. At this point in time you can choose to add a background color to it or leave it transparent. Personally I usually use a background as the image (specifically if it's animated) comes out better. If you want to add a background colour (I used black to match the background of the board I'd be using it on), "Layers", "New Raster Layer", "ok" Go to your Materials Pallette an in your "foreground and stroke properties" choose the color of your choice (I chose black) Click on your flood fill tool flood fill your newly created layer. Go over to your "layer's" Pallette right click and "Arrange", "Send to Bottom" Mine now looks like this (see print screen below)

18. Activate your "layer 1" (the layer with your frame) by clicking on it in your layer's palette

19. Activate your Magic Wand with the following setttings (see print screen below) and click inside the middle frame of your image (the frame that is showing black). You will see marching ants after you click on that area with your magic wand (see print screen below)

20. From your drop down menu at the top choose "Selections", "Modify", "Expand" (see print screen below) Expand by "2".

21. Go over to your layer palette, right click on "layer 1" and rename it "glitter 1"

22. Right click on "glitter 1" and "duplicate" rename that layer "glitter 2"

23. Right click on "glitter 2" and "duplicate" rename that layer "glitter 3" You should how have 4 layers - "Raster 1", "Glitter 1", "Glitter 2", and "Glitter 3" (see print screen below)

24. "X" out your "Glitter 2 and Glitter 3" layers by clicking on the eye. Click on "Glitter 1" to activate that layer. (See print screen below" )

25. Go to your Material's Palette and click on your "Foreground and stroke properties". Click on the "Patterns" Tab, then arrow down. You will see the three glitter frames that you opened up in PSP at the beginning of the tutorial. (See print screen below) Mine say "Image 3, 4 5" It is important that you use the correct glitter frames in the correct order.

26. Click on "Image 3" 20. Click "ok" You have now set your fill to the first glitter frame.

27. Click on your flood fill tool (the little paint bucket on the left side of your screen)

28. Now go over to your image and click in the centre of your box in your frame that has the marching ants. You should see the glitter now fill that box.

29. Go over to your layer's palette. Click on the eye beside "Glitter 1" to block it out

30. Go to your "Glitter 2" layer and click on the eye to take the block off. Now click on "Glitter 2" to activate that layer. (see print screen below)

31. Go to your Material's Palette and click on your "Foreground and stroke properties". Click on the "Patterns" Tab, then arrow down and now choose "Image 4"

32. Click "ok" You have now set your fill to the second glitter frame.

33. Click on your flood fill tool (the little paint bucket on the left side of your screen)

34. Now go over to your image and click in the centre of your box in your frame that has the marching ants. You should see the glitter now fill that box.

35. Go over to your layer's palette. Click on the eye beside "Glitter 2" to block it out

36. Go to your "Glitter 3" layer and click on the eye to take the block off. Now click on "Glitter 3" to activate that layer. (see print screen below)

37. Go to your Material's Palette and click on your "Foreground and stroke properties". Click on the "Patterns" Tab, then arrow down and now choose "Image 5"

38. Click "ok" You have now set your fill to the third glitter frame.

39. Click on your flood fill tool (the little paint bucket on the left side of your screen)

40. Now go over to your image and click in the centre of your box in your frame that has the marching ants. You should see the glitter now fill that box.

41 Go over to your layer's palette. Click on the eye beside "Glitter 3" to block it out

342 Go back to your "Glitter 1" layer and click on the eye to take the block off. Now click on "Glitter 1" to activate that layer again (see print screen below)

43. Choose "Selections", from your drop down menu across the top of your screen then "Select None" (or Ctrl D)

44. Go to your image and right click on the very top of your image (along the top grey area where it shows the name of your image). You should see a drop down box appear like the one below in the print screen. Choose "Copy Merged"

45. Go back to your ANIMATION SHOP. Right click on the open space and choose "Paste as New Animation".

46. You should now see your image pasted into Animation Shop (see print screen below)

47. Go back to PSP. Block out "Glitter 1" layer and un block "Glitter 2" layer by clicking on the eye, then click on "Glitter 2" to activate the layer **THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT**


48. Go to your image and right click on the very top of your image (along the top grey area where it shows the name of your image). Choose "Copy Merged"

49. Go back to your ANIMATION SHOP.

50 Choose "Edit", "Paste", "after current frame" (see print screen below)

51. Go back to PSP. Block out "Glitter 2" layer and un block "Glitter 3" layer by clicking on the eye, then click on "Glitter 3" to activate the layer

52. Go to your image and right click on the very top of your image (along the top grey area where it shows the name of your image). Choose "Copy Merged"

53. Go back to your ANIMATION SHOP.

54. Choose "Edit", "Paste", "after current frame"

55. Now you should have your 3 glitter frames imported into your Animation Shop. If you zoom in at 1:2 you should see all three frames there (see print screen below)

56. Now "File", "Save As" and name your new animation.

57. Open up your newly created image and VOILA!! You're done!!! I added my name to mine as well. I just added a new raster layer, added my text, and did the steps the same way as well. Using the Magic Wand you can pretty much add glitter to any part of an image you like. Have fun and try experimenting. I hope you've enjoyed this tutorial.
